I thought it was time (with Betty & Jim's OK), that I gave you an update on Jim Hill's health. As you may or may not know, Jim is suffering from cancer as a result of a melanoma. Jim has had several ops on his brain to remove them. They also have migrated to his lungs, foot and internal organ. He is a shell of his former self. A drug (B-raff), that he is on, is keeping it a bay. On behalf of all of us, I wish Betty and Jim all the best in this fight.
Regards to all M8érs, Mulvi

Mulvi:
Thanks Strop & Bob. I joined the Association in 1994/1995 and have been either the NSW Division Treasurer or the National Treasurer ever since. We need more members. So if you are not a member, think about become one. Details are at faaaa.asn.au (our Web page). Even though I have retired (from the APS), I am back in uniform until 01JUL2012, working at NASPO (the old SAMR). Keeps me off the streets (and the golf course, and the river).
Regards to all the M8'ers.

The following email is promulgated for the interest of WA based members of the Mighty 8th. If you would like to be invited to the JR Memorial Remembrance Day service please contact Olwen Parry as listed below:
"Leeuwin is once again hosting a Remembrance Day service at the main flag pole by the JR Memorial. We also have a Navy cenotaph and band, choir, etc etc. Last year's ceremony was very well received, hence it will be bigger and better this year.
I was hoping to invite some local (WA based) ex JRs, and wondered if you have a contact list specific to WA, or would know where I can obtain one? I think they would really enjoy being here again.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers, Olwen

G/Day
My recent visit to Nowra has made me think right back to my teenage years and offcourse JRTE.
I ponder on such things as what sort of music were we listening to? What telly shows did we watch in the telly room? And doe’s anyone remember getting mixed up in the crowd in Melbourne when the Beatles were visiting? All the eastern state boys were on their way back from leave by rail.
My songs from 64 are a toss up between Navy Blue, by Diane Renay or Do Wah Diddy Diddy, by Manfred Mann.
What say you guys?
Cheers Strop

Yes, remember getting a glimpse of the Beatles on their balcony at the Southern Cross Hotel (demolished in 2009), along with close to 20,00 other fans.

Another successful ‘mini-reunion’ was held at the Nowra Bowling Club on Saturday the 20th August. Thanks for Mike Mitchell for hosting the venue. Those that attended had a great time, reminiscing their past events. Picture of those who attended are (L to R).. Denis Mulvihill, Rick Watkins, Wayne Asher, Alan Snow, Blue Grenfell (visitor from the 7th Intake), Jim Hill, Mike Mitchell, and Rick Foster. Apologies were received from Bob Green, Curbs, Gunny & Wrighty from the Wollongong area. Each attendee was given a sheet of names of our intake, which they are requested to contact and confirm address, e-mail, telephone number, and whether they will be attending our 50th Re-union. If any of our members read this (and your details have changed since our 45th Reunion), please confirm the above (new) details by forwarding them to my e-mail address.
Regards,
Mulvi
